Annual Women in College Coaching Report Card Sees First Decline in Women Head Coaches in 13 Years
July 5, 2026
The Tucker Center’s 14th annual Women in College Coaching Report Card found that the percentage of women head coaches of NCAA Division I women’s teams in seven major conferences fell for the first time in 13 years, dropping 0.2 percentage points to 47.5%. White coaches still hold the large majority of head-coaching roles (about 83.4%), while women of color make up only ~7.3% and their representation declined slightly. The single-year dip may be an anomaly but note persistent racial and sport-by-sport gaps (many programs have zero women head coaches of color), highlighting continued structural barriers despite earlier multi-year gains.
