UCLA scientists develop mineral sunscreen without the chalky white cast

UCLA scientists engineered zinc oxide particles into microscopic four-armed “tetrapods” that provide SPF 30 mineral sun protection while dramatically reducing the typical chalky white or gray cast on skin. The tetrapod structure prevents particles from clumping, keeps the lotion more stable over time, and produces a warmer appearance closer to natural skin tones, especially on darker skin, potentially improving daily sunscreen use and supporting skin cancer prevention.
