The Women’s Pro Baseball League has unveiled the team names and identities for its inaugural season, set to begin Aug. 1 at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.
The first four teams are the New York Heights, San Francisco Firebells, Los Angeles Queens and Boston Hunters. Each team name is inspired by a pioneering woman.
The Heights are named after Dorothy Irene Height, a civil rights and women’s rights leader from New York. The team’s branding features graphic lines that form both the New York skyline and the shape of an “H,” symbolizing movement, precision and audacity.
The Firebells are inspired by Lillie Hitchcock Coit, known as “Firebelle,” a champion of San Francisco’s volunteer firefighters. USA TODAY
