Australian woman beats all the men at Antarctic Ice Marathon

December 16, 2025

Sunday marked the 20th edition of the Antarctic Ice Marathon, and it was notable for more than just its long history: for the first time ever, a woman claimed the outright race title.

Australia’s Catherine Drysdale dominated freezing conditions (-8 C, “feels like” -18 C) and a very snowy course in Union Glacier, Antartica, finishing in three hours, 48 minutes and 43 seconds. Her performance beat the entire field–men and women–by more than six minutes. CANADIAN Running Magazine
