Allyson Felix ends retirement, targets 2028 L.A. Olympics at 42

April 27, 2026

The most decorated female track and field athlete in Olympic history, Felix owns 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold. At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, she captured relay gold and 400m bronze, before retiring in 2022. “When I was competing, you just heard this roar for host-country athletes at the Olympics,” Felix told TIME. “I would love to experience that.”

The American sprinter says she wants to attempt a “live experiment in human potential,” becoming the first American sprinter to reach the Olympic stage in their 40s. The project will be dubbed “Project Six,” as L.A. 2028 will mark her sixth Olympic Games. It will also mark her first hometown Olympics. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime homecoming,” Felix wrote. “And it is the only thing powerful enough to pull me back”. CANADIAN Running Magazine
