Female players join appeal for Wimbledon’s all-white attire policy to be scrapped

Wimbledon prides itself on its all-white dress code – conceived in the 1800s to minimise sweat stains on coloured clothing – which sets it apart from the other Grand Slams. Until now no female player has publicly questioned the practicality of whites around menstruation. But the rule has come under even fiercer scrutiny and collective criticism this year, seeing several high profile tennis players and commentators speaking out against the barriers they place on women.
