June 6, 2022
The U.S. Women’s Open wrapped up Sunday in Southern Pines, N.C., with this year’s $10M purse and winner Minjee Lee’s $1.8M payday the “largest in women’s golf history to date,” according to Beth Ann Nichols of GOLFWEEK. When the USWO was held at Pine Needles in ’01, the “entire purse that week” was $1.2M, and winner Karrie Webb “earned $212,500.” This tournament also marked the “first time in women’s golf history that two women would earn seven-figure checks,” as second-place Mina Harigae took home around $1M (GOLFWEEK, 6/5).
