Katie Ledecky now stands alone as the most decorated American female swimmer in Olympic history following Team USA’s silver medal in the women’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday (August 1).
Ledecky, who won gold in the 1500-meter freestyle on Wednesday (July 31) and bronze in the 400-meter freestyle final on Saturday (July 27), has now medaled 13 times since winning gold in the 800-meter freestyle at the age of 15 during her international debut at the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Americans finished with a time of 7:40.86, with heavily-favored Australia winning gold with a time of 7:38.08 and China taking bronze at 7:42.34.
Ledecky set a new Olympic record with a time of 15:30.02 during her 1500-meter freestyle gold medal victory on Wednesday and owns the 20 fastest times in the history of the women’s 1500-meter freestyle, with her newest Olympic record-setting time only ranking eighth all-time. 933kjr
