Google recently launched the Fitbit Air, a compact, screenless wearable priced at $99.99, designed as a slim alternative to bulkier smartwatches. The pebble-shaped device focuses on passive health tracking without a display, relying on the Google Health app for insights and personalized coaching powered by AI. It pairs seamlessly with Android and iOS devices, emphasizing distraction-free monitoring.
Key features include 24/7 heart rate monitoring, heart rate variability, SpO2 (blood oxygen), sleep stage analysis, automatic activity detection for workouts like running, cycling, and rowing, and atrial fibrillation (AFib) alerts. Battery life lasts up to seven days, with a quick five-minute charge providing a full day of use; it’s also water-resistant to 50 meters. A Special Edition costs $129.99, and purchases include a three-month Google Health Premium trial.
Pre-orders are live via the Google Store, with shipping starting May 26 in select markets like the US. The device complements Pixel Watches for all-day and sleep tracking, adapting recommendations to user habits over time. eWeek
