Women’s sport brought £55m boost to London in 2025, report finds

Women’s sports events held in London in 2025 generated over £54.7 million for the city’s economy, according to a City Hall report. The Women’s Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham was the biggest contributor, producing an economic impact of £48.5 million. That match saw England defeat Canada 33-13 with 81,885 spectators in attendance, setting a new world record for attendance at a women’s rugby match and becoming the most-viewed women’s rugby union game on British television with 5.8 million peak viewers on BBC.

Women’s tennis also made a significant return to London, coming back to Queen’s Club for the first time in over 50 years. The BBC Championships attracted more than 60,000 attendees and brought in an estimated £6.26 million for London’s economy, with global broadcast coverage reaching 154 countries.

Throughout 2025, London hosted a total of 13 major women’s sporting events that were viewed by more than 223 million people globally, demonstrating the growing economic and audience impact of women’s sports. BBC
