TikTok Riddled With Misleading Info on Health: Study

Young people researching health topics on TikTok will find an alarming amount of misinformation on the platform, a new study says.

About 44% of TikTok videos related to sinusitis contained non-factual information, researchers reported recently in the journal Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Further, almost half of the videos came from “non-medical influencers” – content creators with more than 10,000 followers who did not identify themselves as medical professionals.

These videos sometimes promote genuinely dangerous “treatments,” the researchers added.

At the very least, the videos cause confusion or lead people to delay effective care in favor of half-baked alternative therapies. Healthday

New York, NY, April 25, 2024 /SPORTSWIRE WOMEN/ – Women in Motorsports North America (WIMNA) and Parity, the sports marketing and sponsorship platform dedicated to closing the gender income and opportunity gap in professional sports, today announced an all-new event, Women with Drive Miami, presented by RBC Wealth Management. The event will feature a reception and panel discussion to celebrate all women blazing a trail, on the track and in the boardroom, the evening of Friday, May 3, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

The event will bring together more than 100 leaders, influencers, race car drivers, and notable industry executives to discuss the current climate of the sport, celebrate its continued growth, and look towards the sport’s future. The panel will feature a lively conversation about women as leaders and competitors, in society and motorsports, with pioneering motorsports legend Lyn St. James, 2023 Porsche Sprint Challenge champion Ashley Freiberg, and Chief Diversity Officer for Seminole Hard Rock Stephanie Piimuana, that will be moderated by Parity CEO Leela Srinivasan. The discussion will cover current issues and opportunities for a more diverse and inclusive motorsports industry.

This special one-day event will be held leading up to the F1 Miami Grand Prix (May 3-5), one of the most notable races of the calendar year and a tentpole in the global sports calendar. Women with Drive Miami is the latest event as part of WIMNA’s ongoing Women With Drive series, which supports and enhances opportunities for women across all disciplines of motorsports. Additional partners for the event include Porsche, Mobil 1, Racing Prodigy, and Yokohama Tires.

Parity, WIMNA, RBC Wealth Management and supporting partners will also distribute a total of $5,000 in scholarships to attending women drivers.

“We’re honored to partner with Parity and RBC Wealth Management for this exciting reception and panel discussion. Our shared vision of gender neutrality fits perfectly with WIMNA’s efforts in enabling and advancing careers for women,” says Cindy Sisson, WIMNA’s Executive Director. “The evening will be engaging, informative and entertaining.”

“We are thrilled to announce our official partnership with Women in Motorsports North America for this seminal industry event,” says Srinivasan, CEO of Parity. “In collaboration with WIMNA and RBC Wealth Management, Parity stands firm in its commitment to fostering diversity and empowerment within motorsports and beyond. By celebrating and supporting women in this dynamic field, we not only embrace inclusivity but also champion the industry’s boundless potential.”

“The popularity of women’s sports is at an all-time high, racking up big wins with fans, mainstream viewers, as well as prospective owners and sponsors. Yet, despite this rapidly expanding acclaim and demand, women athletes still earn far less than their male counterparts,” says Shareen Luze, Head of Culture and Field Experience at RBC Wealth Management. “RBC Wealth Management is dedicated to fostering workplaces and communities where everyone can reach their full potential. And that includes supporting events like Women with Drive Miami that highlight the need for equal opportunities and income for women athletes.”

This partnership is the latest RBC initiative dedicated to supporting women’s sports across a number of important areas. RBC has commissioned ongoing research in partnership with Wasserman and The Collective, Wasserman’s women-focused division. The first report, The New Economy of Sports, seeks to:

  • examine the athlete income gap
  • illustrate the opportunities women athletes present to brands, sponsors and investors
  • arm key stakeholders in sports with the data needed to make a strong business case to drive positive change

April 25, 2024 /SPORTSWIRE WOMEN/ – Developed by women and for women, the NNormal trail running top arises from the shared need of many women to find a trail running top that is lightweight, comfortable, and functional, taking into account the needs of female runners.

Some time ago, in a conversation with Emelie Forsberg, the NNormal design team pinpointed the challenge many women face in finding a comfortable and functional trail running top that gives them the necessary confidence for all types of training and races, or even allow to carry flasks, gels and other kinds of objects.

The team quickly understood what Emelie meant and this need was the perfect inspiration for NNormal to start working on a solution that combined sustainability, performance and comfort.

The NNormal Trail Cropped Top is a product specifically designed for women who seek performance and value comfort during races or training sessions. Developed by a team of women, it has been designed to offer an innovative and lightweight product that provides the necessary support to feel confident in all types of outdoor activities.

Emelie Forsberg and the solution to a need

The voice of the athlete and NNormal ambassador Emelie Forsberg was key in the development of this product, which underwent an intense testing process to create the very best version.

Emelie explains, “I found it very difficult to find a comfortable top that fit well and had pockets, to feel lighter in my races. It was great that the NNormal design team wanted to work on it, and the experience has been fantastic. I would love to continue collaborating on creating products for women.”

The innovation: the cropped top pockets

The NNormal Trail Cropped Top has three pockets to carry all kinds of necessary items during activities. The top pocket, small and around the neck, is ideal for carrying small items securely, such as keys, with a ring attached to an elastic strap. The two side pockets let you carry larger items such a phone, gels, flasks and even a windstopper.

Developed by women for women

“The goal was to create an innovative, sustainable product specifically designed for women: with lightweight and recycled materials, and three different pockets to provide enough storage for short and medium races. This does away with the need to wear a vest, especially in hot conditions. The cropped top’s fitted cups provide moderate support and can be removed if you prefer to wear a sports bra underneath for maximum support,” explains Zoe E. Geoghegan, apparel product development manager at NNormal.

Made with sustainable materials

The NNormal Trail Cropped Top has been designed for athletes who want to respect the environment without compromising quality or comfort. It is made of 85% recycled polyester and 15% elastane; while the lining is 87% recycled polyester and 13% elastane. All this makes it as respectful of the planet as it is of the wearer’s skin.

A video call with Emelie Forsberg

Those who purchase the NNormal Cropped Top before April 31st, either through physical stores or at www.nnormal.com, will have the opportunity to join a video call with Emelie Forsberg, aimed at delving into the origin of the Cropped Top and the needs of women who, like her, love running or have made running a lifestyle.

Following a historic playing career with the Seattle Storm, four-time Seattle Storm WNBA champion Sue Bird is re-joining the franchise, this time as a member of the organization’s ownership group.

The Storm announced the news Wednesday but did not disclose Bird’s stake in the franchise.

While it is significant Bird is joining the Storm’s ownership group, she is also already an investor in a professional women’s sports franchise. In July 2022, NJ/NY Gotham FC announced that Bird had become a minority investor in the club. The Athletic

The WNBA notched its best Finals viewership since 2003 with October’s series between the Aces and the New York Liberty, up 36% from the year before. Last year’s regular season was the most watched in 21 years and best attended in 13 years. FOS
