“Mom Guilt” No More: A New Study on Triathlon Moms is Smashing Old Truths

When Chelsea Sodaro won the 2022 Ironman World Championships just 18 months after having her daughter, Skye, she ignited inspiration in women across the globe. Not only did the then 33-year-old return to peak fitness after having a baby, but she was able to train for the grueling event and execute a stunning win—all while parenting a toddler.

Since that win, Sodaro has also been vocal about her struggles as a mom, speaking candidly about postpartum anxiety and grappling with being away from her daughter while she trains and races. Fellow professional triathlete and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Gwen Jorgensen has also addressed the mom guilt associated with leaving her two young sons at home while she travels for her career, saying she’s working with a psychologist to overcome her guilty mindset.
